Hovedinnhold

"In this visual and entertaining talk we will look at how various mathematical structures can be visualized, explored, and ultimately better understood through programming. We will go through a number of mathematical themes, such as number theory, graph theory and algebra, and look at how we can visualize and make the abstract more concrete.

We also look at how visualizations can become art and consider many examples of mathematical and algorithmic art. In particular, we will explores spaces of Celtic knots, card shuffling, and much more. Programming not only enables beautiful expression, art and, engaging visualizations and explanations, but also opens up the world of mathematics to insightful exploration and deeper understanding."

Roger Antonsen is associate professor at the Department of Informatics, University of Oslo, with a PhD in logic and proof theory, former guest researcher at UC Berkeley, California, and ICERM, Brown University, author of the book "Logical methods: The art of thinking abstractly and mathematically", artist, and popular science communicator.
