Women’s suffrage in the media
In 1913, Norway became one of first countries in the world to give women the right to vote in parliamentary elections. How was the controversial question of women’s suffrage covered in the media of the time?

As part of the Faculty of Social Sciences’ celebration of the upcoming 100 year anniversary for universal suffrage in Norway, journalism researcher Brita Ytre-Arne will analyse the media debate on voting rights for women. This research project will explore various discourses in the debate on women’s suffrage in Norwegian newspapers and magazines, and also look at how the institution of women’s suffrage in Norway was covered in the international press.
The project is funded by the Faculty of Social Sciences and organized in collaboration with the Uni Rokkan Centre.
