Aim
The aim of Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies is to offer research education courses that can gather candidates in different music disciplines.
Main content
Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies will promote academic research and artistic development on a high international level. This will be done through working modes that will make it possible for the candidates to be active in regional, national and international networks, both within their own special field and within more interdisciplinary and academically integrated working modes.
The research school will ensure a solid recruitment of professionals with the highest competencie within higher education, research, management and the society. The research school will also be open for higher music education staff on research qualification programmes. The research school will have a regional anchor, but will at the same time try to develop a solid international profile, both in terms of level, orientation and recruitment.
The research school will integrate both musical and interdisciplinary perspectives. The focus is on the following disciplines: Music education, music therapy, musicology (inclusive ethnomusicology) and music performance/composition. These are fields with different profiles and orientations, but nevertheless they share some important problem issues and methodological challenges. The research school would like to challenge the tendencies of fragmentation of music research where academic and artistic research are developed within different spheres.
