Hovedinnhold

Even though Islam has been an integral part of the political constitution of Sudan, Christianity has both historical roots in the country and is the majority religion of South Sudan, the newest state on the planet gaining its independence from the north after many decades of civil war.

Christianity has not simply been an influence amid the conflicts of war-torn Sudan and South Sudan. It has also been a source and a background for education systems and schools that were functioning in Sudan since the early 20th century and the condominium period and until the war that broke out in April 2023.

We would like to invite you to a panel discussion where such aspects of the past, present, and future of Sudan will be taken up by Joanna Udal, William Jensen Mangerøy and Howaida Faisal Abdelrahman.

The event will take place at Babelstuen in the Library of Humanities of the University of Bergen. It will be accompanied by a small exhibition of books from our collections relevant to our panel’s topic.

Refreshments will be served.

Panel: Joanna Udal, William Jensen Magerøy, Howaida Faisal Abdelrahman, Alexandros Tsakos (moderator).
