Semester Dates
The academic year at UiB is a total of 40 weeks and divided into two semesters.
Each semester at UiB starts with a Welcome Programme for all new international students.
Autumn Semester
The autumn semester:
- Lasts approximately 19 weeks.
- Starts in week 32 (new date).
- Ends on 20 December.

10 August | Start date of the semester. |
10 August | Welcome Programme for international students |
1 September | Deadline to register for courses and exams at Studentweb |
November-December | Examinations are held throughout the semester, but most of them will be held during this period. Please check each course for more details. |
20 December | Official end of the autumn semester. |
Public Holidays: There are several public holidays throughout the year in Norway.
Spring Semester
The spring semester:
- Lasts 21 weeks.
- Starts normally in week 1 or 2 (early January).
- Ends on 20 June.

Important dates in the spring semester 2021
January | Welcome meeting at your faculty Check for updated information nearer the time at new student. The faculties will not hold welcome meetings earlier than 13 January to allow time for quarantine if needed. |
1 February | Deadline to register for courses and exams at Studentweb |
May - June | Examinations are held throughout the semester, but most of them will be held during this period. Please check each course for more details. |
20 June | Official end of the spring semester. |
