Project Application Support at GEO

Applications from GEO for external funding must be well planned and anchored in the department leadership. In order to provide good administrative support to the process (including setting up a budget), the following guidelines apply.

Main content

In general, the following applies to all funding applications:

  • The application must be registered by submitting the form (GEO Proposal Registration)
  • The budget must be in line with GEOs guidelines and quality assured by a project economist
  • The application must be approved by the department management before it can be submitted

There is also a lot of useful information on UiB's employee pages "Work support for research and innovation"

Timetable at GEO for research applications:

  • In the planning phase. Contact the department's administration for project application (see right column)
  • Submission of form "GEO Proposal Registration": Submit this as soon as you have a plan to apply for funding and no later than 4 weeks before the application deadline/planned submission date.
  • The application will then be registered in the project application module and a project economist will be assigned to the project
  • The budget can then be prepared in collaboration with the project economist in line with the TDI model, see GEO's guidelines for budgeting in project applications
  • If applicable, give access to the head of administration and project finance in the application portal (NFR, Espresso, EU Funding and Tenders portal)
  • No later than 1 week before the application deadline (preferably 2), the application budget must be ready for a review with the Head of Administration (BDM). This review is done on TEAMS and the project economist convenes this. The project manager, project economist and head of administration participate. The research adviser is invited and participates when relevant.
  • Last week before the application deadline: Letters of intent, etc. can only take place AFTER the budget has been approved.
  • Upon submission: a copy of the application must be sent to the research adviser
  • After submission: notify the research adviser as soon as you have received feedback on whether the project has or has not been awarded funding

The administration does not go into the academic content, but will quality assure applications as they bind the department financially
