Election at KMD 2026
Elections will be held for representatives from Group B to the Faculty Board and all three Department Boards at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design in the spring of 2026. The deadline for nominating candidates is Wednesday, 15 April at 12:00, and electronic voting will take place from 1–3 June 2026.
Main content
Every year, representatives from Group B – PhD research fellows and temporary research staff – must be elected to the Faculty Board and the Department Boards at all departments. In addition, a supplementary election will be held this year for Group A – academic staff – to the Department Board at the Department of Design.
Group D – students – also elect representatives to the Faculty Board and the Department Boards each year, but they organize their own elections through the student democracy. The results of the student election will be announced at the same time as the KMD election results, on 4 June.
Supplementary election of members from Group A – academic staff – to the Department Board at the Department of Design.
Due to natural turnover and changes in employment among the representatives elected in the main election of 2025, a supplementary election is now being held for Group A to the Department Board at the Department of Design. The election is a preferential vote, and the term of office runs from 4 June 2026 to 31 July 2029.
Only employees in a 50% position or higher at the Department of Design are eligible to stand as candidates and/or vote in the election.
Minimum number of members
For the Department Board at the Department of Design, at least two deputy representatives must be elected.
How to nominate candidates:
- Anyone who is eligible to vote in the election has the right to nominate a candidate for the same election. Check the MANTALL tab to confirm your voting eligibility.
- Nominations must be submitted in writing to the election secretary at KMD by email, no later than 15 April at 12:00.
- A nominator cannot propose themselves as a candidate.
- No nominator may submit more than one nomination.
- Please note that you may only nominate a candidate from your own electoral register group.
Please note:
According to UiB’s election regulations § 8-2, there are strict rules governing the withdrawal of a nominated candidate. You must therefore confirm with the person you wish to nominate that they are genuinely willing to stand as a candidate.
There is no restriction preventing someone from standing for election again to a board or council in which they have previously served.
All formal papers are in Norwegian, so a minimum understanding of the language is required.
Election of members from Group B – PhD research fellows and temporary research staff
Elections will be held for representatives from all of Group B at KMD to the Faculty Board. For the Department Boards, representatives are elected specifically for each of the three respective departments. The election is a preferential vote, and the term of office runs from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027.
Boards and minimum number of representatives
- Faculty Board: 1 member + 1 deputy
- Department Board, Art Academy: 1 member + 1 deputy
- Department Board, Department of Design: 1 member + 1 deputy
- Department Board, Grieg Academy: 1 member + 1 deputy
How to nominate candidates
- Anyone who is eligible to vote in an election has the right to nominate a candidate for the same election. Check the MANTALL tab to confirm whether you have voting rights.

- A nomination may include one or several candidates; make sure to clearly indicate which candidate is being nominated for which board or council.

Electoral Register
As an employee you can log in to The Electoral Register to check that you are listed.
To have the right to vote, you must be employed in a permanent position of at least 50%. Also those who are temporarily employed for a period of at least one year in a minimum 50% position at the time of the election or have had a continuous employment relationship for 12 months in at least a 50% position have the right to vote.
To cast a vote, you must have a USER ACCOUNT AT UIB.

Nominated candidates
The election is a preferential vote, and the following will be elected during the voting:
For the Faculty Board:1 permanent representative from Group B, the remaining nominees will become deputy representatives.
For the Institute Board:1 permanent representative from Group B, the remaining nominees will become deputy representatives.
The election will take place 1. - 3. juni 2026.
