Opening of Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies

Wednesday 1 December 2010 Grieg Research School in Interdisciplinary Music Studies was officially opened. The new research school is a collaboration between the University of Bergen, Bergen University College, Stord/Haugesund University College and Volda University College.

The University of Bergen is the cooperating body for Grieg Research School, but lecturers, researchers and supervisors from all cooperating institutions will be engaged in building a strong and vital academic milieu.

The opening ceremony was held as an introduction to the first research seminar in Grieg Research School’s history, The meaning of Music – The Effects of Music. In this seminar there were 6 keynote presentations by renowned researchers from different music disciplines such as music performance, musicology, music therapy and music education. In addition 11 candidates from the same fields presented their work in progress. The international profile of the seminar was strong, as candidates, supervisors and lecturers this time were recruited from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Uganda and USA.

The evaluation of this first research seminar concludes that this was a truly promising start for Grieg Research School.
