CET Lunch: Pro-climate tipping points

Our speaker will attend in person. Participants can sign up and tune in via stream, or turn up at CET where lunch will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.

Climate change presents large challenges for society, where the realities of bio-physical limits could create massive social and ecological upheaval. The science of climate change has largely been assembled by the ideas of thresholds we don't want to cross and potential consequences of tipping past these thresholds. However, new exploration has been put into the idea there can also be positive thresholds and tipping points, where change processes benefit both humans and the Earth. Social tipping points are a theory of change where small groups of people influence others to the point that societal states are overturned and transition to new stable states of normalcy. In this presentation, the EU Horizon Pro-Climate project will be introduced along with social tipping point theory and the case study centered in Vestland, Norway.

About the speaker

Julianna is a PhD researcher at UiB in the sociology department. She is a part of the EU Horizon Pro-Climate project.
