Mandate
As defined by the Norwegian Research Ethics Act, assertions of deviance from good scientific practice (i.e. plagiarism, forgery and fabrication of data) can be submitted to the committee. Illegitimate authorship, deliberately faulty presentation and manipulation of data are also areas that pertain to the committee. The committee is also permitted to process cases concerning suspicion of serious breaches of good scientific practice. However, it is emphasised that the alleged breaches must appear to be deliberate or considerately heedless.
Composition
The Research Ethics Committee consists of pro-rector, and two firther members who have been appointed by the University Board.
The Committee can summon to further people, external or internal, to assist the committe with special expertise.
The University Board's secretariat is secretariat for The Research Ethics Committee.
