  • Neuromodulation (cognitive enhancement)

Research interests: My primary research focuses on cognitive control, which refers to mental operations that guide goal-oriented behavior. A substantial part of my work aims at the specification of neurocognitive processes facilitating inhibition of mental and motor responses. In related work, I examine inter-individual differences in the morphology of the frontal cortex and how they relate to the efficiency of cognitive control processes. Recent projects additionally focus on the design of effective interventions to augment cognitive control processes. Here, I explore the applicability of neuromodulatory techniques, such as neurofeedback and transcranial electrical stimulation, for the modulation of cognition in both healthy and psychiatric subject populations. Not least, I cooperate with colleagues from diverse disciplines to advance computational methods in neuroscience. One example is my work on procedures for the estimation of latent variables from multi-subject EEG data.
