Preliminary Studies
Before one may start on a complete course of studies at the University of Bergen the Department of Philosophy offers Examen Philosophicum. In Examen Philosophicum we give all students at the University of Bergen a foundational
introduction to philosophy and academic methods of work.
Additionally we meet every student at the Faculty of Humanities through the following preliminary
studies:
- Academic writing
- Text and culture
- Language and communication
Philosophy and History of Ideas
FoF has responsibility for the bachelor's programme Philosophy and History of Ideas where you can specialize in either philosophy or the history of ideas.
Research at FoF.
Research at the Department of Philosophy – besides individual
research – is organized into five research groups:
- the research group for analytic philosophy
- the research group for classical philosophy
- the research group for phenomenology and existential philosophy
- the research group for social philosophy and political theory
- the research group for Wittgenstein-related studies
Organized research training
The PhD degree is awarded on the background of an independent academic work to be defended in
public disputation, and documented participation in a training programme which gives 30 credits.
The Faculty of Humanities administers the organized research training and PhD candidates follow
the training programme that is offered by the faculty.
