Teacher training and pedagogy

How can you teach complicated facts so that everyone can understand them? How can you improve teaching through cooperation, dialogue and modern technology?

As a teacher, you will influence and inspire the next generation by giving of yourself and by imparting your knowledge. By training as a teacher at UiB, you get to study your two favourite subjects in depth. You will qualify as an upper secondary teacher or a secondary teacher, not a primary school teacher. That means greater professional competence and a higher salary.

If you do not wish to become a teacher, but are interested in an education that focuses on learning, upbringing and teaching, you should study pedagogy.

You can choose one of our integrated programmes, where you take a degree qualifying you to teach two subjects. Hand in hand with your studies, you will learn how knowledge is developed, while reflecting on the subjects and how to teach them. In addition, you will take practical training in school. You can also choose to take a Bachelor or Master’s degree in subjects that you can teach and then take a postgraduate certificate in education (PPU).

Pedagogy

Pedagogy studies do not qualify you to teach. Broadly speaking, pedagogy is about communication, knowledge and learning. You learn to understand the individual in a cultural and social perspective, and you develop the ability to plan, lead and assess educational practises in communities of different kinds.
