The 12th Symposium for the Japanese Scandinavian Radiological Society (JSRS) and 15th Nordic Japan PACS Symposium has been very successful.

The symposium accommodated 59 oral presentations and 12 poster presentations. These were all of high quality presenting new imaging methods, state-of-the-art imaging diagnostics and novel imaging biomarkers relevant for patient care. Furthermore, emerging imaging techniques related to artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms that are likely to transform radiology in the future, were presented.

Progress in Radiology 2018 gathered >100 delegates; ~ 50 delegates from Japan and ~50 delegates from the Nordic countries. The conference was organized under the auspices of Mohn Medical Imaging and Visualization Centre, Haukeland University Hospital and The Norwegian Radiological Society and was generously sponsored by the Scandinavia-Japan Sasakawa Foundation – Norway in addition to vendors.

Thanks to the very good work from the local organizing committee and excellent assistance from the conference organizer (Kongress & Kultur), the conference also provided a very interesting and pleasant cultural program including opening reception in Håkonshallen (hosted by the municipality of Bergen),  visit at Edvard Grieg Museum, Troldhaugen and conference dinner at Fløyen.

The Japanese Scandinavian Radiological Society has during this conference confirmed its role as a highly relevant society for the radiological community, promoting scientific and cultural interaction between Japanese and the Nordic radiologists. This society provides unique opportunities for collaboration that may be further boosted in June 2020 when Professor Masamitsu Hatakenaka hosts Progress in Radiology 2020. We hope to see many supporters of JSRS again in Sapporo in 2020!

Ingfrid S. Haldorsen (President)
