Master's Programme in Fine Art - Module Structure

The Master's Programme in Fine Art is a two-year programme amounting to 120 ECTS credits. Students must complete subjects amounting 30 ECTS credits each semester in a normal study progression.

General information about prioritization of elective courses
As a Master student at the Art Academy, you must prioritize your elective modules within given deadlines each semester. Please remember to check each module's schedule, to avoid double bookings. This, with "Supplementary semester information", is available on each module page linked bellow.

The courses will be distributed according to priority and capacity and cannot be changed after allocation.

Access to workshops and equipment: Students have the opportunity to complete workshop access courses at the beginning of each semester. These courses are required to gain access to the various workshops. Some workshop access courses require previously acquired technical experience or competence to obtain access. The necessary experience or competence will be described in the course content, linked from each workshop access course below. Please contact the workshop engineer if you have experience that may be approved.

Important deadlines for semester registration for autumn semester:

1 July:
  • Schedules get published and course descriptions are available with current information at uib.no (see drop-down menus below for direct links to the courses)
  • Studentweb opens for semester registration and payment of semester fees
  • The students may start to prioritize their elective courses (PRO) in Studentweb
     
  • Optional: Registration for additional intro courses to workshops (health and safety) opens in Studentweb. Usually offered from week 33 (Direct registration. Please note the time you have signed up for)

  • Deadline to prioritize electives (PRO) in Studentweb
    (Administration assigns courses according to priority and capacity of the subjects. You will get an email when subjects are assigned and that you must registers for teaching and assessment in the assigned subject before semester start, in order to get access to teaching information in MittUiB)
     
  • If relevant: Deadline to apply approval of prior education. Contact studieveileder.kmd@uib.no

  • Electice courses have been assigned in Studentweb
  • Please sign up for these in Studentweb to gain access to the subject in Mitt UiB, where all teaching information is published. Remember to check your calender and subjects in Mitt UiB for information about teaching
1 September
  • Deadline to complete the semester registration. (5 steps after pressing the big green button in Studentweb)
    Please check that you are registered for teaching and exams in all subjects you will complete this semester. You may check this in either UiBTreet or Studentweb
  • Deadline for paying the semester fee

    Please note that you are in risk of losing your right to study if you do not meet this deadline.

Important deadlines for semester registration for spring semester:

1 December:
  • Schedules get published and subject descriptions are available with current information at uib.no (see drop-down menus below for direct links to the courses)
  • Log in to Studentweb and prioritize your PRO courses. Make sure that at least your first 3 choices are subjects that you may desire.
15 December
  • Register for teaching and exams for the courses in your educational plan in Studentweb
    Click on the big green button and follow the 5 steps. Make sure that you are registered in courses that add up to 30 credits
  • Final deadline for prioritizing elective courses (PRO) in Studentweb.
    The administration assigns courses according to priority and capacity for the subjects, given by the program board, with the aim of assigning either 1st or 2nd choice to all students.
     
  • Optional: Registration for additional access courses to workshops (health and safety) in Studentweb
    (Direct registration, first come first serve. Note the time you have signed up for)
    NOTE that some access courses require prior knowledge. Information about this can be found in Studentweb on the relevant courses. You must submit documentation for your experience with the focus area in the form you will find a link to in Studentweb. This is handled by the head engineer for the workshop.
Within study start, week 2:
  • Elective courses have been assigned in Studentweb
  • Make sure that you have registered for teaching and exams in all subjects in your educational plan in Studentweb to get automatically access to the course in Mitt UiB. After you have registered for the semester, you can check the teaching, time and place in your calendar at Mitt UiB.

1 February:
  • Final deadline to complete the semester registration. (5 steps after pressing the big green button in Studentweb)
    Check that you are registered for teaching and exams in all subjects you will complete this semester.
  • Final deadline for paying the semester fee

    Please note that you are in risk of losing your right to study if you do not meet this deadline. You may also risk not being able to take the exam if you are not registered for the exam in the course you are going to take, if you are not registered correctly by this deadline.

Remember that you must be registered for teaching and exams in the course in Studentweb to gain access to the course in MittUiB. This happens automatically when you have registered the course in Studentweb. Information about teaching activities is published in the courses at MittUiB. Please check teaching times in your calendar at Mitt UiB, when you have registered for the semester in Studentweb.

Workshop Access Course, each semester

 

The workshop access courses, health and safety (HSE) training, required to participate in electives will mainly be given in the teaching of the MEME/PRO courses. Check the course descriptions for information on which access courses are included in the teaching.

Access courses you need for your own art practice beyond this, you will have the opportunity to complete by register in Studentweb. The access courses are necessary to be allowed to work in the various workshops.

Please note that some workshops (ceramics, graphics and textiles) require technical experience/competence in order to gain access to the course. Requirements for prior knowledge are described in the workshop descriptions. Access courses to C41 color film processing and Painting workshop must be applied for, in order for the head engineer to offer a course time. Contact the head engoneer regarding questions about prior experience/education that may gain you access to a workshop.
