Extended admission to the PhD programme
Contact your department as soon as possible if you wish to extend your admission to the PhD programme. You must apply for an extension before the end of the funding period because admission to the PhD programme will end automatically at the end of the period.
To apply for extension, please use the application form.
The application must include a statement of what has been completed and published, and what remains of the PhD work. Confirmation from your main supervisor about supervision during the extension period must be attached to the application. A detailed milestone plan must be included that shows planned progress during the extension period, so that the department can follow up on the plan. The milestone plan and a time schedule should be developed together withe the supervisor. In case of an extension, you must apply for approval of the training component by the end of the extension, if this has not already been done. Cf. UiB's regulations § 5-3.
The application may be granted if the department, after an overall assessment, finds that the project can be carried out during the extension period, and that the department can offer the necessary supervision resources and infrastructure.
Even if the admission has expired, you can apply to submit the thesis for assessment for the PhD degree. This assumes that the individual training component has been approved.
