Sigrunn Eliassen was elected Pro-Rector at the University of Bergen in the spring of 2025 for the term August 2025 – August 2029. Her area of responsibility is education.
Eliassen is a Professor of Theoretical Ecology at the Department of Biological Sciences (BIO) and served as Vice-Dean for education at the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2021 to 2025. Her research focuses on fundamental questions related to mate choice, cooperation, and decision-making processes. She has led several basic research projects and has an extensive international network.
Eliassen has broad experience in educational development and quality assurance. She is an esteemed educator at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, a member of the Pedagogical Academy, and received the national award for excellence in teaching from the Olav Thon Foundation in 2021. She has been a member of the steering group for the Centre for Excellence in Education bioCEED, head of educational development at the Department of Biological Sciences, and project leader for several externally funded educational projects.
Eliassen works strategically and long term to enhance the quality of education at the university. She also has responsibility for the area of sustainability at UiB.
