Title: Methods to generate interpolating curves on manifolds

Abstract: There are several ways to generate polynomial functions in Euclidean spaces and successful attempts to generalize those approaches to Riemannian manifolds. But in which concerns finding explicit formulas for such curves,the results are not satisfactory. This is also the main drawback that one faces whentrying to generalize classical least square problems to non-Euclidean spaces.In this talk, we will give an overview of several methods to generate interpolating curves on Riemannian manifolds, and present a variational approach to tackleleast squares problems on such non-Euclidean spaces. Several new and challengingproblems arising in this context will be highlighted.
