Environmental microbiology in Bangladesh

Selina Akter has defended her PhD thesis "Adaptation and survival of Escherichia coli in tropical aquatic environment" at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and was awarded the PhD degree on September 5, 2013. Dr. Akter has been enrolled as PhD student in a University of Bergen/University of Dhaka sandwich model as part of the NUFU-funded project "Assessment of microbial pollution and diversity of Escherichia coli and Shigella in freshwater resources in Bangladesh". Part of her thesis work has been done during her visits to Bergen, and has so far resulted in 2 publications: "Serological Cross-Reaction Between O-Antigens of Shigella dysenteriae Type 4 and an Environmental Escherichia albertii Isolate", and "Prevalence and distribution of different diarrhoeagenic Escherichia coli virulotypes in major water bodies in Bangladesh". She is now working as Lecturer at Department of Microbiology, Jessore Science and Technology University, Jessore, Bangladesh.
