Members of CSD/PMG got to the front page of InterPore journal

The invited commentary titled "Regional scale subsurface modeling" written by group members Inga Berre and Jan Martin Nordbotten, together with coauthors Paola F. Antonietti, Rainer Helmig and Marc Hesse received the front page of vol. 2 no. 2 of the InterPore Journal.

"The figure summarizes some of these multifunctional uses of the subsurface, while at the same time qualitatively indicating the regional scale impact such use may have in terms of mechanical response. Importantly, while any individual subsurface operation may be benign, their interactions may critically interfere with both each other, as well as natural features in near-critical states."

The editor Nima Shokri writes the following in the editorial commentary regarding the paper:

In an Invited Commentary, Berre et al (2) call for a shift in subsurface modeling from field-scale to regional-scale approaches that can assess the cumulative and interconnected effects of multiple subsurface operations. As activities like resource extraction and storage grow, regional effects spanning tens to hundreds of kilometers become increasingly significant. The authors propose a roadmap for advancing mathematical and numerical methods, emphasizing multiscale modeling, hybrid physics- and data-driven techniques, and efficient computational tools to support comprehensive regional-scale analysis.
