Postdoktor Inger Elisabeth Måren
Dr. Inger E. Måren er økolog og hennes forskningsinteresser fokuserer på tverrfaglige tilnærminger for å analysere menneskelig påvirkning i terrestriske økosystemer. Hun forsker på romlig og tidsmessig vegetasjonsdynamikk (suksesjon) i menneskeskapte miljøer som de europeiske lyngheier og høyereliggende skog i Himalaya. Hennes publikasjoner omhandler økologi og bevaringsbiologi i menneskeskapte landskap.
Hovedinnhold
Inger Elisabeth Måren holdt sin avhandling for graden PhD i mars 2009 ved Institutt for Biologi, Universitetet i Bergen, med tittelen: “Effects of management on heathland vegetation in Western Norway”. Avhandlingen undersøker effekter av menneskeskapte forstyrrelsesregimer; de tradisjonelle skjøtselsmetodene med husdyrbeite, slått og brenning, på vegetasjon og frøbanker i kystlyngheiene i Vest- Norge. Effekter av brann på spiring av nøkkelarten Calluna vulgaris er også diskutert. Restaurering- og bevaringsaspekter i forhold til ulike mekaniske og kjemiske skjøtselsmetoder for å bekjempe einstape blir analysert. Lyngheibevaring blir integrert i et bredere rammeverk, og relatert til biologisk mangfold og økosystemtjenester i en global kontekst.
Ved Institutt for geografi inkluderer hennes forskning i Himalaya effekter av menneskelig påvirkning og biologisk mangfold i høyereliggende skog, regenereringsøkologi, og dynamikk i medisinplante-populasjoner og matsystemer. Hun har vært involvert i det tverrfaglige NFR-prosjektet Legal Frameworks for Conservation of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in the Himalayas (HimaLines), som arbeider med juridiske rammer for bevaring av biologisk mangfold og økosystemtjenester i Himalaya. Opprettholdelse av biologisk mangfold og andre økosystemtjenester som er avgjørende for menneskers velbefinnende, krever et effektiv juridisk rammeverk for å hindre overbeskatning og gi incitament for beskyttelse av biologisk mangfold . I postdoc-prosjektet som var en del av HimaLines, tester hun effekten av ulike juridiske rammer for å opprettholde biologisk mangfold og økosystemtjenester i høytliggende skog i Nepal, Himalaya.
- I utviklingsland så er landskapet som omgir jordbruksland viktig for ivaretakelsen av biologisk mangfold og for å sikre forsyningen av økosystemtjenester. Skog tilveiebringer en hel rekke goder og tjenester for fattige småbønder i det nepalesiske agro-økosystemet. Vi fant at arsrikheten var negativt korrelert med gangavstand fra nærmeste landsby og stigende grad av antropogen forstyrrelse. Skoger forvaltet av de lokale var generelt mindre forringet sammenlignet med skoger forvaltet av staten, og dette støtter opp under teorier om kollektiv forvaltning av fellesgoder, forteller Inger Elisabeth Måren.
