PH.D. FELLOWSHIP IN COMPARATIVE POLITICS

At the Department of Comparative Politics, University of Bergen, a 4 year university fellowship position is available from the date agreed. Total scholarship period is 4 years, 25% of which shall be dedicated to mandatory tasks at the Department of Comparative Politics.

Hovedinnhold

The project is related to a joint effort of the Department of Comparative Politics, Department of Sociology and the Department of Administration and Organization Theory at the University of Bergen, to strengthen research cooperation on Development, welfare, social inequality, democracy and human rights.

The themes of this initiative are at the interface between two of the major research areas at the University of Bergen; research on development and research on democracy and the rule of law. Applications for the fellowship must be oriented towards the objectives of this initiative, which are to strengthen research on:

- the study of inequality in various societal areas, such as welfare, health, education, political participation etc, with a focus combining national and international structures and processes,
- the conditions for democratic developments and human rights,
- the structures, institutions and processes that shape, condition or reinforce inequalities in these areas, nationally and/or globally,
- the extension of the understanding of quality of life and welfare to include how climate change and climate policy influence structures, institutions and processes.

The academic activities in the Department of Comparative Politics are organized in four research groups:

- European Politics
- Welfare and Democracy
- Comparative Democratization
- Research Methods

Applicants are expected to join the work of one of these research groups, and contribute to interdepartmental activities in this field with the other two departments. Applicants must have a master degree in comparative politics or equivalent fields. The master degree has to be completed by the application deadline.
