GHIG focuses on theories of change within a social scientific relational perspective. Important topics and analytical concepts such as social conflicts, discourses, social differences and trends, social cognitive processes, democracy, marginalisation and gender and development.

The Nordic Graduate School of Educational Research (formerly WNGER II) was established 23. August 2018 to strengthen the PhD-education across 6 universities and university colleges in Western Norway. The graduate school focuses on educational research and pedagogy.
