Symposium on climate and health at Centre for International Health, University of Bergen, Friday, May 3, 2013

Welcome to this one day symposium on climate and health at the Centre for international health, see programme attached.

The ongoing climate changes have been described as the biggest threat to global health in this century. Already now, health problems due to the increasing global temperature are being experienced by many, especially poor populations exposed to flooding or droughts. Global food security is threatened.

On Friday May 3rd these problems will be discussed. Professor Tore Furevik will give an overview of the current climate changes, what we can expect in the years to come. Researcher Torleif Lunde will give an overview of possible impact of climate change on the occurrence of malaria and other health related events, with a focus on Africa. Professor emeritus Gunnar Kvåle will further discuss the health impacts and what is needed for mitigation and prevention of serious consequences.
