An interdisciplinary approach
The basic framework conditions for future societal development will depend, among other things, on climate conditions and energy access. In order to cope with the transition to a low-emission society, the development of knowledge about energy use, energy transition and social organization must involve all faculties at UiB. Perspectives from research in the humanities, health, law, social sciences and psychology are important for understanding the process of energy transition and the development of sustainable energy solutions.

A clear focus area for UiB
«Ocean, Life and Society» are the three strategic focus areas of UiB for the period 2016-2022, where climate and energy transition is a central theme. By creating clusters, forming centers, increasing interdisciplinary cooperation, and including external partners, UiB will try to mark itself as one of Europe's strongest university in climate and energy transition. The future energy director, together with a climate director and the academic management at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, will have overall responsibility for leading the interdisciplinary focus area. The Director of Energy will be responsible for organizing and leading cooperation on research, education and innovation across the field and the faculties - both locally, nationally and internationally. The Energy Director will also participate in the Strategic Committee on Climate and Energy transition and work as the the secretary of the Climate and Energy transition management group.
