Call for funding: Collaboration in CHARM-EU

Would you like to develop new collaborations with partners in the CHARM alliance or share online courses with students at all CHARM universities? Then you can apply for funding by October 15th 2025.

Since 2023, UiB has been a member of the European university alliance CHARM-EU. The alliance is one of 65 European university alliances, a flagship initiative in the European strategy for higher education.

In addition to UiB, eight universities are partners in the alliance: University of Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, Eötvös Loránd University, University of Montpellier, Åbo Akademi University, Julius-Maximilians-Universität of Würzburg, and Hochschule Ruhr West.

UiB aims to facilitate the development of new collaborations with partner universities and contribute to the alliance’s work in establishing an online course catalogue for students.

Three calls are available for UiB employees with an application deadline of October 15th

Call 1: Seed funding for the development of academic collaborations with CHARM partners

Goal: UiB aims to encourage new collaborations with our CHARM-EU partner institutions.

About the call

  • Totat amount NOK 400 000
  • Staff members or academic units can apply for up to NOK 50 000
  • Application deadline: October 15th 2025
  • The project can be carried out until August 1st 2026

Criteria

  • The project must include at least one other university from the CHARM-EU alliance. Involvement of multiple alliance members is encouraged.
  • Projects that include active student participation will be prioritized.
  • New initiatives and academic collaborations will be prioritized.
  • Interdisciplinary projects are strongly encouraged.
  • After completion, the academic unit must submit a brief report (max. one page). The report should include concrete outcomes, such as a draft for a joint project, a specific plan for shared activities, an agreement on faculty exchange, etc.

The seed funding can be combined with Erasmus funds (approximately 1000 Euros per mobility) with priority for travel to CHARM partners. More information: Erasmus+ staff mobility for training   

Call 2: Development or adaptation of courses for CHARM-EU’s online course catalogue

Goal: UiB aims to facilitate that academic communities can make courses available to students at partner universities in CHARM-EU. Students can apply for online courses in the spring and fall semester. Link to CHARM-EU online course catalogue

About the call  

Funds can be used to develop new courses or make necessary changes to existing courses. The latter can, for example, involve creating an English version of a Norwegian course, facilitating hybrid participation in regular courses, or providing support to accommodate more students in the course.

  • Total amount NOK 250 000
  • Staff or academic units can apply for up to NOK 80 000  
  • Application deadline November 15th.
  • The project can be carried out until 1st August 2026.

Criteria

  • Development projects that are informed by and inspired by CHARM's "educational principles" will be prioritized.
  • Courses that can be offered more than once will be prioritized.
  • Courses developed and delivered in collaboration with one or more CHARM partner universities will be prioritized.
  • After completion, the academic unit must submit a brief report (max. one page). The report must include concrete plans for how the funds have been used, the outcomes of course development, and plans for including the course(s) in the CHARM course catalogue.

What type of courses can be offered in the online course catalog 

  • English courses (also Spanish, French and German) 
  • Online or hybrid courses 
  • BA-, MA- or PhD-level (not continuing education courses) 
  • All disciplines

All students at CHARM universities can apply for the online course catalog. Participation is conducted as ‘virtual mobility’ so that students can apply to have the course approved as part of their degree at their own institution.

Call 3: Mobility Support for Administrative Staff

Goal: To promote increased learning and exchange of experiences, UiB seeks closer collaboration between administrative staff within the CHARM-EU alliance.

About the call

  • Total amount NOK 160 000
  • Individuals may apply for up to NOK 15 000 and groups may apply for up to NOK 50 000
  • Application deadline: October 15th 
  • The project can be carried out until 1st August 2026

Criteria

  • The project must include at least one other university in CHARM-EU. Involvement of multiple alliance members is encouraged.
  • Projects that support the goals/work of one or more CHARM work packages will be prioritized.
  • Administrative staff who have not previously been involved in CHARM-EU activities/projects at UiB are especially encouraged to apply.
  • After completion, a brief report (maximum one page) must be submitted. The report should include concrete plans for sharing results and experiences following the mobility period.
