Objectives and Content
The course will provide perspective on climate and energy transition and insight into technologies for carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
The world is facing tough climate challenges and the global energy situation is changing rapidly. If we are to achieve the UN goal of reliable and sustainable energy for all, energy transition and reduction of CO2 emissions are crucial. How can we reduce CO2 emissions fast enough? Can CCUS become part of the solution to the challenge?
In this course, we will discuss the above questions and key topics within CO2 capture utilization and storage (CCUS) where the main goal is to develop and improve technologies that contribute to cut emissions.
The course will give examples of field pilots where technologies such as injection of CO2-foam in oil fields and new carbon-neutral technologies for gas production have shown that the industry can participate in CCUS projects with commercial motives. Another interesting possibility is the production of hydrogen (H2) from natural gas, where handling and storage of the by-product CO2, as well as intermediate storage of hydrogen, are part of the value chain.

Access to the Course
Teaching and learning methods
The teaching will be fully digital and section-based. Sections will provide a collection of short videos / podcasts (7-10 minutes) within specific topics. After each video / podcast, the participants will answer a quiz with questions about its content. The course participant can move on to the next part within the same section after passing the quiz. Every new week a new section becomes available. Students can decide whenever they want to study. After completing a section, the course participant will be asked to write a reflection note, or hand inn an assignment connected to the content of the section. Teachers covering each section will be available through chat in open digital rooms for questions and discussion at scheduled times. Discussions and collaboration between course participants will be encouraged. The course runs over 10 weeks.

It is a requirement that the students follow all teaching, as well as complete and get approved assignments.

The grading scale used is Passed/not passed.
The course will be evaluated by the students in accordance with the quality control system at UiB and the department.
The Programme Committee is responsible for the content, structure and quality of the programme and courses.
