More research needed on women, sustainability and the sea
ENMARINE hosted its kick-off conference in Bergen on October 26-27, 2023, entitled Women and the Sea: Setting the Research Agenda
Main content
The conference gathered academics, labor leaders and marine consultants from Norway, Brazil, Chile, the United States, Italy, and Spain. We were also very pleased to offer a public keynote lecture with distinguished expert Dr. Margaret Willson, associate professor at the University of Washington (USA) and associate senior researcher at the Stefansson Arctic Institute (Iceland).
During the conference, presentations on a wide range of topics addressing women’s role in fisheries, social and ecological sustainability and socio-economic inequalities were shared and discussed. A main conclusion emerging from the conference is the need for more research on this topic, as well as the need for bringing together researchers and other stakeholders engaged in these themes.
