EURASIA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA – bringing together music students from Norway and Azerbaijan
"Eurasia Chamber Orchestra" is a project that stems from a year-long collaboration between The Grieg Academy – Dept. of Music and Baku Music Academy in Azerbaijan.

Through the cooperation between the two institutions students from the academy in Baku have been able to do parts of their music studies in Bergen – to the benefit of both insitutions. The “Eurasia Chamber Orchestra” project is based on this established cooperation – but here the students exchange goes both ways, within the frame of an intensive project. The idea is that string players from Baku and brass/wind players from the Grieg Academy (with assistance from a few students outside the academy) join forces to rehearse a concert program that will first be performed in Bergen and then in Baku.
In week 16 (April 13th – 17th) the string players from Baku will be in Bergen, and the result can be heard at a concert in Korskirken on Friday the 17th of April at 19.30. In the week after, the whole orchestra travels to Baku to perform the same concert there.
Stravinskij’s “Pulcinella suite” is a central part of the concert, in additions to music from both Norway and Azerbaijan: Bergen composer Harald Sæverud’s “Gjætlevise-variasjonar” as well as a work for strings by the Azeri composer Fikrat Amirov. In addition, we will hear two first performances of works by composer students form both Bergen and Baku.
The concert is free of charge – welcome to all! The project is supported by the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (SIU).
