BERG has just collected and stored our first blood samples from patients with epilepsy in a specific biobank at Haukeland University Hospital. The biobank has been approved by the regional ethical committee. We intend to collect samples from all patients with epilepsy treated at Department of Neurology. This will lay the foundation for important research projects in the future. We will be able to correlate clinical information with studies of novel and relevant biomarkers. Ongoing research projects have a special focus on those patients who are pregnant or are going to become pregnant, status epilepticus, and brain tumour. The biobank project is a part of EpiReg, the prospective registration of patients with epilepsy supported by a substantial Helse Vest grant.
