New doctors

When the autumn’s 111 doctors were honoured in the Håkonshallen, there was an extra reason for the University of Bergen to celebrate.

A total of 237 doctorates were conferred in 2010, a record number. These were equally distributed between men and women. The new doctorates were from all academic areas of the university, with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry standing out with the most candidates.

“This is another good illustration of how successful our doctoral programmes are,” was Rector Sigmund Grønmo’s comment on this positive development.  He also pointed out that UiB’s action plan for doctoral programmes ensures the institution’s collective responsibility for securing the completion of doctoral degree programmes.
