ROUND TABLE
In the words of the World Health Organization’s Secretary General Tedros Ghebreyesus:
"The evidence is clear that climate change is already having a serious impact on human lives and health. It threatens the basic elements we all need for good health - clean air, safe drinking water, nutritious food supply and safe shelter - and will undermine decades of progress in global health."
Adding to this picture are all the ways in which climate change deepens inequalities within and between societies, including health inequalities. In this context, the fairness and effectiveness of health systems are more crucial, and more challenging than ever before. This session will discuss current global efforts to build health systems that are able to provide health care more effectively and fairly than in the past. The discussion will include looking at the history, ethics, science, law and political visions and leadership needed in pursuit of Health for All; including the role of litigation in moving towards climate-sound health systems.
