CCBIO Web Seminar – JianFeng Chen

CCBIO has a monthly research seminar where invited guests and international or national speakers focus on current research topics and updates. Speaker: JianFeng Chen, Shanghai. The rest of the spring term, our seminars will be conducted as web seminars, so you can join from your home office!

Main content

Speaker: Professor JianFeng Chen, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China.

Title: Regulation of immune cell trafficking by extracellular microenvironment

Chairperson: Donald Gullberg

Abstract:

Immune surveillance and host defence depend on the precisely regulated tissue-specific trafficking of lymphocytes. α4 integrins (α4β7 and α4β1) are heterodimeric lymphocyte homing receptors that mediate lymphocyte adhesion and migration by interacting with their ligands. The dynamic regulation of integrin-ligand binding by extracellular stimuli is essential to integrin-mediated lymphocyte trafficking. One research interest in my lab is the regulation of integrin adhesion and signaling by different extracellular microenvironment factors. My talk will focus on two of our most recent findings: the switch of integrin ligand specificity by different chemokines, and the regulation of integrin-mediated lymphocyte adhesion and migration by febrile temperature.

Short bio:

PhD Jianfeng Chen is Professor at Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of sciences (CAS), Shanghai. Dr Chen obtained his PhD at CAS Shanghai in 2001 and was then research fellow in the laboratory of Professor Timothy Springer at Harvard Medical School 2001-2007, before returning to Shanghai in 2007. He is a leading integrin scientist with publications in PNAS, J. Biol.Chem., Mol. Cancer,  J. Cell Biol., Dev. Cell, and Immunity. For details about his research focus please see: http://www.sibcb.ac.cn/ePI.asp?id=3

How to watch/attend: Zoom webinar

It is possible to log on from 09:50 and on from the following link, and the seminar starts at 10:00 (Note that time is 10:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST), the timezone in Norway):

  • Your sound and video will be turned off as default for security reasons, and only host can de-mute individual participants.
  • We will open for questions after the lecture, where you can use the “raise hand” function in Zoom. Host will then de-mute you and address you by your name (please log on with your name).
  • If you think you might want to ask questions, please test your microphone beforehand.
  • We advise all to have a Zoom account on your device beforehand (free service), that will save you some minutes when logging on.
  • If further logon information is required, see this information:

Those of us with University of Bergen (UiB) client machines, might already have Zoom. If not, see https://it.uib.no/Jeg_skal_bruke_Zoom_for_f%C3%B8rste_gang For private machines (not UiB), see https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting  Otherwise, clicking the logon link provided above will prompt the Zoom app to download, but it saves you time to have done this already.
