EEA Social Security Law Conference in Reykjavik organized by CENTENOl and Reykjavik university

The conference will explore the impact of EU and EEA law on national social security law, with emphasis on Icelandic and Norwegian law.  The background is the Norwegian ‘NAV scandal’, where misinterpretation of EEA law led to wrongful accusations of social security fraud for recipients of sickness benefits who had travelled to other EEA States, resulting in dozens of wrongful convictions and thousands of unjust repayment claims. The scandal resulted in much-needed attention being paid to the consequences of the EEA Agreement for Norwegian social security law. Indirectly, this has also resulted in the EFTA Surveillance Authority taking an interest in Icelandic social security law.

More details including a programme to follow.

We hope you will join us for a day of insightful discussions and networking opportunities with leading experts in the field of social security.
