Infection of the umbilical cord stump (omphalitis) is a major contributor to overall infections in newborns resulting in severe illness and death. Babies born in low and middle income countries, especially in areas where more than half of births occur at home, are particularly at risk.
The CISMAC team is happy to announce the inclusion of this new study which sets out to examine the effects of treating the umbilical cord of newborns in Uganda with chlorhexidine to prevent infection.
