We do research, collect, conserve and communicate.
The Department of Cultural History do research, archaeology, anthropology and art- and culturalhistory. I the museum there are exhibitions of archaeological objects from our prehistory, norwegian folk art, church art, and ethnographic exhibitions. The Cultural History building is closed awaiting renovation.
The archaeological finds and exhibitions in the Museum are from the counties Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane og Sunnmøre.
The collections also include the archaeological finds from medieval Bergen. These are located at Bryggens museum. The museum’s collection of medieval church art is unique. We also have collections of anthropological footage, and unique collections from more recent times, like the theater-history of Bergen.
