Anthropological film

Visual anthropology and anthropological film are one of the research fields at the Department for Cultural History. The department manages a larger collection of anthropological film material, and hosts the archive for Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA). In collaboration with NAFA and BOAP, the University Museum publishes Journal of Anthropological Films (JAF).

Anthropological film is based on social anthropological research and methods, with longer fieldstudies and recording in the field. Audiovisual methods and visual anthropology are one of the research fields at the Department of Cultural History, and films produced by researchers at the department are screened at numerous film festivals around the world.

Department of Cultural History manages a larger collection of anthropological film material, and hosts the archive for Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA). In collaboration with NAFA and BOAP, the University Museum publishes Journal of Anthropological Films (JAF).

 

Journal of Anthropological Films 

 

Journal of Anthropological Films (JAF) is a peer-reviewed journal for anthropological film that publishes films that stand alone as original, empirical contributions based on social anthropological research.  The journal is open access, and published two issues yearly. JAF is published by Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA), Bergen Open Access Publishing, og Department of Cultural History.

Nordic  Anthropological Film Association - collection

 Nordic Anthropological Film Association (NAFA) filmcollection consists of anthropological film from all over the world, with films from the 1950s untill today. New films are added to the collection every year. The films are digitalized and made available through the NAFA websites, which are run by the University Museum. The films are used for teaching in high schools, universities and museums. Access to the film collection is open for members of NAFA.
