Field of potential topics of supervision

I work on projects related to climate and energy transformation, in particular in relation to cities, urbanization and planning. There is a wide variety of potential projects within this theme. I prefer geographical contexts within Norway and Europe, but I am open to supervise projects based on fieldwork in other contexts.

I am the director of Centre for Climate and Energy Transformation (see: https://www.uib.no/en/cet), which involves PhD candidates and master’s students working on similar themes. We often include master’s students in projects and often work collaboratively. There are several running projects with external funding, which master’s students can get involved in.

Examples of possible themes for master’s projects

  • Urban development and sustainable transformations: climate friendly and energy efficient cities
  • Climate and sustainability initiatives in cities and transport
  • Democratic participation and civic activism in cities (Democlim-project)
  • Local communities studies of how people live with climate crisis, focused in particular on media use (MUCS-project)
  • Justice, equity and fairness in urban development
