Action plan for international activities
The University of Bergen aims to be a research university with a high international profile. This is an ambitious goal that will have consequences for the university’s strategic choices at all levels.

The emphasis on the international perspective is also reflected in the national strategy as it is set out in the White Paper on Research, in which it is pointed out that “international collaboration must to a greater extent than at present form an integrated part of the overall Norwegian research system … ". Similarly, internationalisation is a central element in the Quality Reform, in which concrete goals are defined for both education and research. These national guidelines reflect a recognition that higher education and research are part of a worldwide cultural tradition characterised by both international collaboration and competition.
