It was named after Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie. He was not only one of the founders of the Bergen Museum; he was also a unique local and national bridge-builder between politics, science and community.

Marit Warncke, Managing Director of the Bergen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, received the very first Christie Prize for her work on improving interaction between the university and the outside world.
