UiB events during One Ocean Week 2025
For the third time, One Ocean Week will be held in the beginning of April – a week filled with exciting and entertaining events about our sustainable ocean in Bergen. On this page you will find an overview of UiB's events during the ocean week. All events are free and open to everyone, except where indicated.
One Ocean Week is organized in April for the third year in a row. The picture was taken during One Ocean Week in 2023, when Statsraad Lehmkuhl arrived in Bergen after the One Ocean Expedition.

The University of Bergen is actively involved in various activities during One Ocean Week, which will be held for the third time from April 5 to April 11, 2025.
UiB has world-leading research communities in marine science, and many of our experts are engaged in different activities throughout the week. The University of Bergen is also behind several major events, both on campus and at smaller venues in downtown Bergen. Here, you will find an overview of our events, as well as events where researchers, educators, and students from UiB are participating. The overview will be continuously updated.

All events are free and open to everyone (unless otherwise specified). We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
Saturday 5 April
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Maritime Saturday at Festningskaien. Here, you can meet representatives from industry and research.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Valuing Norway's oceans. Visit the tent of Norwegian Seascapes research project for various activities on Norway’s ocean values, at Festingskaien 1.
Sunday 6 April
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Family Day at Festningskaien – Welcome to a fun-filled day with activities for the whole family.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Austefjord VR – Join an exciting underwater VR adventure through Austefjorden. This event is part of Family Day at Festningskaien.
- 12:00 - 16:00: Meet Marine Biologists from the University Museum – and the Animals They Study – Meet researchers working with sharks, jellyfish, bristle worms, snails, and many other marine species. This event is part of Family Day at Festningskaien.
- 18:00 - 19:30: Reception in the University Aula (By invitation only).
Monday 7 April
- 15:30 - 17:00: Input Meeting for Users of the Research Program Polhavet 2050. The event will take place in the Captain's Lounge aboard the sailing ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl.
- 19:00 - 20:30: From Tall Ship to Science Lab - One Ocean Expedition 2025-2026 - Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception.
Tuesday 8 April
- 09:30 - 11:00: UiB’s Contribution to the Documentary Series "Our Oceans" and Screening of the Episode on the Arctic Ocean. This event is for schools and takes place at the Aquarium.
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 16:30 - 18:00: How to Predict and Develop Systems in Complex Environments? Insights and experiences from geological CO₂ storage. Lecture in Storsalen, Nygårdsgaten 5.
- 16:00 - 18:00: Career Fair for Early-Career Researchers. UiB Ferd Career Center invites you to a fair as part of Career Days.
- 17:30 - 19:00: The Role of Law in Resolving Conflicts of Interest in Coastal and Marine Areas – Past and Present. Join an engaging panel discussion at the Literature House in Bergen.
- 19:00 - 20:30: Pint of science's ocean diaries: a glimpse into life at sea. Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception.
Wednesday 9 April
- 09:15 - 11:00: Salmon, science and law - we gather experts from science and law for a conversation with representatives from management and salmon farmers on some pressing issues
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 11:00 - 13:00: Poster session - Come and meet some of the early career researchers working in the maritime fields
- 13:00 - 15:15: Marine Spatial Planning: Challenges and Solutions, join us for an insightful event exploring how marine spatial planning can balance human activities with ecosystem conservation.
- 17:30 - 19:00: Exploring Marine Wildlife. Join us on an exciting journey to discover the diversity of marine animals at the Literature House in Bergen.
- 19:00 - 20:00: Healthy and safe seafood for everybody?! - Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception
Thursday 10 April
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 19:00 - 20:00: The "Bryggesaken Case at Hjellestad". What was decided in the Supreme Court, and what is the way forward for the coastal zone project in Bergen? – Ocean Science Bar at Statsraaden Bar & Reception.
Friday 11 April
- 09:00 - 14:00: Workshop on NorEMSO data and facilities - join us for an insightful workshop on the NorEMSO data and facilities. (Registration before 31 March)
- 10:00 - 16:00: The Poisoned Whale – an exhibition about the poisoned orca Elida at the University Museum of Bergen.
- 12:00: Farewell Ceremony for Statsraad Lehmkuhl as it embarks on the One Ocean Expedition 2025-2026. Join us at Bradbenken.
