Research during the expedition

As part of United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl will function both as a research vessel and a training arena. During the expedition, students and researchers will make continuous measurements of the ocean.

Data collection and results will be shared with the outside world throughout the expedition, which can be followed by everyone via internet.

The Institute of Marine Research coordinates the monitoring program, and in addition to the University of Bergen, the group consists of partners from Western Norway University of Applied Science, NORCE, Kongsberg Maritime and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

A number of types of measurements will be carried out along the way. Plankton, carbon, wave heights, temperature and salt are some of the things that will be measured around the globe.
