Project start-up meetings

The animal facility wants to ensure the best possible collaboration from the very beginning of a project.

We must also ensure that animal welfare is taken care of throughout the study.

Clear agreements and avoid misunderstandings

Our research technicians, veterinarians and controllers have valuable experience to contribute with, that can make the practical implementation of projects the best possible for both the animals, the research group and the animal department.

It is important that everyone involved in the experiment (PI, PhD, students and technical personnel) are informed and stays up to date on procedures and practices that apply at the Animal Department.

Important animal welfare work during studies

The animal facility has the following important tasks

• follow the development and results of studies regarding the effect of the on the animals

• identify and advise on factors that further contribute to replacement, reduction, and refinement (3Rs)

It is therefore important that we establish good collaborations routines for the practical animal welfare work.

Who? When? How?

When the project has been approved by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet), you can arrange a project management meeting by contacting the operational manager at the Animal Facility.

For experiments that go on for a longer period (years), it can be useful to have someone intermediate meetings along the way

The meeting can be held physically or electronically (teams or zoom)

Topics to be covered at the meeting

Basically, all information that is important for the practical work

Much information can also be found on the Animal Facility's website such as:

  • Occupational health and safety
  • Ordering animals
  • Order medicines for animals
  • Booking of rooms and operating theaters
  • Reporting animal use
  • Report errors, deviations, and animal welafre concern etc.

It is also important that we ensure updated contact information for all project participants.

And we need to ensure that all project participants have the necessary and updated practical training - and will review updated documentation

We use a fixed checklist that you will receive in advance.

In addition, we will respond as best we can to whatever question you have or issues that need clarifications
