The University of Bergen participated on the international Ocean Sampling Day through members of the Marine Microbiology Group. This was part of a joint effort to collect marine samples throughout the world in a coordinated manner on summer solctice 2014.

The Ocean Sampling Day is an initiative of the Micro B3 Project (Marine Microbial Biodiversity, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology) with the aim to gain new insights into marine ecosystem functioning and its biotechnological potential. The sampling through the University of Bergen was conducted in Raunefjorden near the Espegrend Field Station. A map shows all sampling locations of participating groups around the world.
