The EFP Perio Workshop is a world-leading meeting of the main European and global experts on periodontal science, which encourages the spread of knowledge through the establishment of systematic reviews and consensus agreements of great relevance and impact to the scientific community.

Perio Workshop 2018 was organised by the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) in partnership with the Osteology Foundation. The workshop involved 80 invited academics and researchers in periodontology and oral surgery, and was chaired by Prof. Mariano Sanz (EFP) and Prof. Christer Dahlin (Osteology Foundation).

Prof. Kamal Mustafa from the Tissue Engineering Group at UiB participated in Working Group 2, which explored biomaterials and regenerative technologies, particularly cell therapy, for bone regeneration.

Group members Siddharth Shanbhag, Salwa Suliman and Kamal Mustafa contributed with a paper entitled Cell Therapy for Orofacial Bone Regeneraton: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. The review summarizes the latest clinical and pre-clinical evidence on the use of cell therapies for bone regeneration, and forms the basis of consensus statements to guide future clinical research and practice.

The workshop’s consensus papers and working documents will later be published in a special open-access supplement of the EFP’s Journal of Clinical Periodontology.

Congratulations to Prof. Mustafa and the Tissue Engineering Group!
