To ensure safety, animal welfare, and compliance with facility standards, all personnel and visitors must follow specific procedures when entering and working in the Animal Facility. These guidelines cover:

  • Entry protocols for different areas (rodent barrier, large animal facility, operating halls)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Visitor instructions for those not working directly with animals

Adhering to these instructions helps protect both humans and animals from allergens, infectious agents, and other risks. Please read the following sections carefully before entering the facility.

    • Follow the instructions displayed on the poster on the wall.
    • Change into blue or white scrubs provided in the wardrobe.
    • Use either your own shoes (reserved for use in the Animal Facility only) or wear shoe covers.
    • Wash your hands thoroughly.

Entering Rodent Rooms or Laboratories

When working directly with animals in animal rooms or laboratories, you must:

  • Wear a respirator or dust mask (with P2 filter)

    • Protects your respiratory tract and prevents drip contamination from you to the animals.

  • Wear a hair net

    • Prevents allergens from urine and epithelium from being carried home.

  • Wear gloves

    • Protects you from allergens in urine.

  • Wear a coat

    • Prevents allergens from spreading throughout the facility.

  • Use dedicated shoes or shoe covers

    • Ensures contaminants are not carried into or out of the animal department.

Entering the Large Animal Facility

When you reach the sluice in the Animal Facility and are going to work with pigs, follow these steps:

  • Change into green scrubs

    • Green scrubs are available in the wardrobe.

  • Footwear

    • Use either your own shoes (reserved exclusively for use in the Animal Department) or wear shoe covers.

  • Visiting operating halls only

    • If you are only visiting the operating halls without direct contact with animals, wear a green overcoat instead of scrubs.

Other Visitors

Visitors or staff who do not work directly with animals must wear an overcoat and either shoe covers or dedicated shoes intended for use in the animal facility.
