The Department of Clinical Dentistry aims to be a leading institution for research, education and knowledge sharing within the field of dentistry.
The department consists of 12 sections.
The Department of Clinical Dentistry focuses on translational research based on a clinical approach. The research is strengthened through 5 thematic research groups. Department research and education is carried out in close cooperation with other institutes at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and with the Dental University Hospital.
The Department of Clinical Dentistry produces approximately 50 scientific publications and 5 PhD dissertations a year. The department carries out research projects financed by the Europeian Union, Research Council of Norway, Helse Vest and Fylkestannlegen and aims to educate 48 dentists and 31 Bachelors of Dental Hygiene yearly.
The Department of Clinical Dentistry offers specialist education for dentists, a qualification program for dentists from outside the EU, and participates in a master program for English speaking students, offered by the Centre for International Health.
The scientific staff at the department is involved in the post-qualifying education of dentists both individually and through the postgraduate program of The Norwegian Dental Association. The department emphasizes on the communication of new knowledge within the field of dentistry.
There are currently 47 permanent and 13 externally funded positions at the Department of Clinical Dentistry. Approximately 25 PhD candidates are undertaking their research education here. This is organized in the research education program at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
The institute is located at Årstadveien 19.
