This is the introductory seminar of the project Emic Sovereignties and Global Intersections, funded by a three-year grant from the Norwegian Research Council. Emic Sovereignties is an interdisciplinary project aimed at exploring contemporary and historical non/configurations of, and possible alternatives to, sovereignty in the Middle East and beyond. In conjunction with the FUTURES research group at UiB, the seminar aims to bring together scholars working on different areas and topics to explore different ways of disentangling sovereignty from its christian, statist, and monolithic position and heritage. Through collaborative discussions, we hope to acquaint researchers with each other’s works, find new avenues for exploration, mutual reinforcements, and bottom-up comparisons. There will be 6 short presentations by FUTURES researchers, followed by a plenary discussion. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.
