Main content

Consumers, governments and corporations are becoming more aware of the origin of the energy that they consume, and the guarantees of origin (GO) market is increasing in Europe and worldwide. More than 25% of the electricity consumed in Europe is consumed by using GO markets. However, our knowledge of that market and the relation between that market and the spot market is still very limited. By characterizing the subgame perfect Nash equilibrium when the spot and the GO markets operate sequentially, we study if the introduction of a GO market has a pro-competitive effect on the spot market. We complete the analysis by studying the impact of different market designs and market structures on the equilibrium.
