Here you will find useful information for new master's students at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Geography. Below you will find an overview of the various activities organised by the faculty and the department. In addition to the local programme, a number of joint social activities are organised that you can participate in are added in the programme. The joint activities are a great arena for getting to know other students, Bergen and the various student organisations that exist. 10.00-11.00: Welcome Ceremony 2025

Coffee at Department of Geography

10.00-11.00: Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences!

11.00-12.00: Get to know the campus, the city and each other

17.30-20.00: Hike to Fløyen
Meeting point: Outside the Fløibanen funicular in Bergen city center, Vetrlidsallmenningen 23A. (external link)
All new students are welcome to join a hike to Fløyen. This is a great opportunity to explore hiking options and meet other students in Bergen. Remember to wear good shoes and dress for the weather. For those with disabilities that make hiking difficult, it will be possible to take the funicular to the top. The ticket cost will be covered by UiB.

19.00: Game night at Diskuterbar
Location: Ulrike Pihls hus
21:30–00:30: Outdoor Cinema
Experience Bergen in a whole new way through an outdoor cinema. Sit down on the lawn outside the Geophysical Institute and enjoy a film on a largecreen, with Ulrikken and Store Lungegårdsvannet in the background. It is free of charge, but you must reserve a ticket in adavance as there is a limited number of places. The film is in English and is shown in collaboration with the Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF).
Remember to dress for the weather and bring something to sit on, as the grass may be wet. There will be no food or drink service, so feel free to bring your own popcorn. The event is weather-dependent and will be moved indoors to Auditorium A at Allégaten 66 if necessary.

11.00-17.00: Student Fair
Sammen is organizing a student fair. Head to Grieghallen to see if you can find your student organization! This is a great opportunity to discover what you’d like to do in your free time. You can talk to, ask questions, and get to know the student community in Bergen.

19.00: Quiz and welcome to Diskuterbar!

17.00-22.30: Hallaien Concert
As a spectacular finale to the Welcome Week, all students in Bergen are invited to a large outdoor concert at Koengen. As a new student, you will receive information about ticket purchases from your student mentors (faddere) at the start of the semester and in UiBtreet (external link) during the Welcome week. Saturday 15 August
12.00-15.00: Morning Fun at Kvarteret
Kvarteret—Bergen’s largest student house—invites you to join your favorite activity or try something completely new! Choose from activities like silent disco, yoga, speed friending, quiz, and karaoke.
Tickets for the event will be released closer to the date; however, you are also welcome to attend on a drop-in basis at your convenience.
